Thread No NNTP Access to these newsgroups...
Mon, Sep 18 2006 7:38 PMPermanent Link

Me
I've lost (most) access to Elevate's newsgroups through NNTP over the last few weeks. It's sporadic, though much more off than on;
at times though, I can try again a few minutes after getting a "No such newsgroup" message... and have normal access. I'm using
XanaNews, and that same program working just fine on all sorts of other sites (including Borland...).

Any suggestions?  Or: Tim, did the recent server migration change something in your NNTP processing? (I'm not sure, but I think I
remember these problems predating the switch over.)

Thanks.

P.S. Great to hear about the impending release!!   Did I mention, how GREAT IT IS to hear about the impending release!!!?

P.P.S. Tim, you, and any other DB gurus, might be VERY interested in this 38 minute video of Anders Hejlsberg (!) describing LINQ.
It looks (?) like he might have finally, truly solved the object/relational problem... and a few others...

(The new-agey camera work is a little distracting... but the video is worth it.  Language-internal queries against all data sources!...)

Yikes, someday I might actually have to look at .Nyet programming...

It also seems that messages and/or entire threads are missing...

Using the last message I posted as an example: I can see it via the web interface. But XanaNews, during a short stretch where it
was "working" again with Elevate's NNTP server, did not show several messages that I see with the web interface, including that one.

BTW, I did refresh the newsgroup list when you updated for ElevateDB...

We don't have any other reports of any issues with the newsgroups, and
everything seems to be working fine here.

Well, Linq certainly is interesting.  However, I'm not quite sure what it's
future will hold at this point.

Thanks. I suspected as much, as I'd been looking for someone else to report problems before I did. When no one did, but the
problems continued, and only manifested themselves on this site... I thought it was worth asking about.

I'll try to track this down some more, but this might be a great time to ask what newsreaders people REALLY like. It may be time to
try another one.

My feelings exactly. Smiley In fact, I don't really intend to move from D5, D7 and K3 any time within the next decade anyway!
