"Adam H." | Sorry - I can't wait any longer. Been waiting to see any posts regarding
v5, but none have come up so I've got to break the silence. Tim, can you throw us a bone here.... a little teaser. Any update on the release date, maybe you could leak the new name out. Have you made a decision on the filename extentions of the new database? I'm not after something big, but I just got to know something new about it that I don't already know - no matter how small it is. At christmas, at least I could pick up the present under the tree, weigh it, or rattle it to ease my anticipation. Cheers Adam. |

Dan Rootham | Adam,
Yep, it's killing me too... But having seen the recent shenanigans on the NexusDB newsgroup (when a release had to be rolled back for some rather fundamental rewrite), I'm happy to allow Tim to continue with his stated policy: << When it's ready. >> Ver 5 has to be worth waiting for! Regards, Dan |

Ouch! That must have really hurt - to roll back a major release! I agree too.... when it's ready. (But I'd still love to have a sneak peek of one of the new unannounced features |

"Ole Willy Tuv" | Adam,
<< Ouch! That must have really hurt - to roll back a major release! >> I believe Dan misunderstood the information/discussions on the NexusDB newsgroups. They have not rolled back a major release. They decided to implement a redesigned index engine in the next *point* release to accommodate better handling of SQL constraints. They also decided to redesign some of the other low-level sub-engines for performance reasons and generally better support of the requirements of the SQL engine. This is of course needs that may arise with a large SQL implementation like NexusDB V2 SQL after users have been hammering the engine for months. I personally think the vendor deserves credit for being willing to do this kind of work in the middle of the lifecycle of the current major release. Regards Ole Willy Tuv |

"Hannes Danzl[NDD]" | > But having seen the recent shenanigans on the NexusDB newsgroup
> (when a release had to be rolled back for some rather fundamental rewrite), Adam, sorry to jump in here. This is a misunderstanding of our announcement. We have implemented some major changes in the core engines to improve performance and prepare it for some changes to the SQL engine. To properly test these changes we decided to *temporarily "roll back" some of the major SQL changes and release a beta version just containing the core changes. This should make sure that we didn't break the code for any customer. The changes to the SQL are not removed or dumped, they are simply removed from this build to be better able to identify any possible problems. Tim, haven't talked to you in ages now. Good luck with V5 and I'll drop you a mail in the next few days. -- Hannes Danzl [NexusDB Developer] Newsgroup archive at http://www.tamaracka.com/search.htm |
