Are you using any index compression at all on the indexes ?  17-20 seconds
sounds like a bit much even for 5 million records.  Also, is the table local
or located on a network file server ?  If it is on a network file sever,
then I would recommend using the DBISAM database server instead.  Querying
very large tables over a network will be very time-consuming compared to
local access or access via the DBISAM database server.
