BLB file got missing |

Ahamed Saajid | Hi,
We are using DBISAM 3.30 version for many installations, and a client of us reported that BLB file is missing from database for two tables. We took BLB file from the backup and replaced. Application is working perfectly now. But, the values of the BLOB fields are not getting populated inside the application. When the table is checked, almost all fields of BLB are null. It had values earlier. We have the DAT and IDX files, is it possible to get back the data. Please consider this as URGENT Thanks in Advance Regards Saajid |

From memory when this sort of thing has happened in the past its almost always down to the action of anti-virus software. Has something changed recently? >When the table is checked, almost all fields of BLB are null. It had values earlier. Is this the backup .BLB you're talking about or the one that used to be there? >We have the DAT and IDX files, is it possible to get back the data. No. The data contained in the .BLB is only in the .BLB you'll have to restore from backup again. Roy Lambert [Team Elevate] |

Rolf Frei eicom GmbH | In addition to Roy, you should never restore only parts of a table (only the
blb files). Allways restore the complete table data including idx, dat and blb files. I think the reason you don't see naything in the blb ist that you only restored the blb and not the other two filetypes of the table. |

Ahamed Saajid | Initially i tried by replacing only the BLB file, and had issues with BLB data.
Now, replaced all the files (IDX,DAT,BLB) and is successful in retrieving data. Is there any suggestion on how to avoid it in future? Why this has happened? If this happened because of AV, as all of us know, Antivirus will be running on most servers. How to avoid BLB file getting deleted? Suggestions please. Thanks |

Exclude the directories or the DBISAM files from scanning or get a new AV Roy Lambert |

Rolf Frei eicom GmbH | Sorry to say that, but I think you can't realy do anything against that,
than to exclude that directory or datatype from scanning. AV tools itself behave today as viruses! I had never a problem with the BLB for any of my customers AV software, but with the DAT files. So I'm not sure if it was in your case a AV problem or not. The only solution is to make backups before installing new AV update. The newsgroups get checked regularly, but sometimes a day or two may go by without a check. As to your issue, if the .BLB files had data in them, then it most likely isn't this issue: http://www.elevatesoft.com/newsgrp?action=openmsg&group=5&msg=59813&page=1#msg59813 The next likely culprit is that either someone at the client's installation deleted them, or that they were removed in some other fashion. Unfortunately, there is no way to get the data back if it was deleted (short of trying to re-assemble the deleted low-level file system clusters), but you can possibly get close by doing what you did - restoring the blb files from a backup and then running a repair on the table. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |
