I was trying to install the trial for Delphi XE7.

I've found a support comment for XE5 which says to check build with packages on the Runtime Packages tab in Project Options.

Unfortunately, on XE7, there is no such check box, and I can't find it anywhere else.  I can't fin sit anywhere in documentation.

How do I enable the trial in XE7?

The official answer is in the FAQ with steps for older and newer delphi:

I think it's under packages now and called "link with runtime packages"
(instead of compile)

I'd found those, but can't make it work. The DBIsam packages aren't listed in the list on that page, and there doesn't seem to be anything suitable distributed with the product.

What version and package did you install and do you see design time components in IDE ?

I don't see the trial downloads but what you need would be "DBISAM 4.40 Build 1 RAD Studio XE7 (Delphi Win32)" installed.

Version 4401b1 32-bit VCL standard - I clicked  DBISAM VCL-TRIAL - Version 4.40 Build 1
Is this the same as the one you mention?

The design time is fine.

Looks OK - just wanted to make sure you used the 32bit version (and not 64bit).

I would suggest then check the path for the design time BPL in the IDE and runtime BPL should be there as well (or do a search and see which other BPL you have and if you have any for runtime dbisam).

If package does not appear in list then checking IDE paths would be my suggestion (and make sure no older dbisam trial path show up anywhere - in case you had older one)

OK, the intelisense now works in the IDE (didn't before) and it complies  giving one error

[dcc32 Fatal Error] E2202 Required package 'dbisamr440rsdelphiwin32xe7' not found

which is weird because that package is listed in Runtime Packages (under options), and it's folder is in the Library.

Anywhere else I should be listing it?

ps I've actually bought a copy, so I'm starting to think that I'll get this going about the time I get the registered version!
It would be nice, to get going with it before then.

I don't use packages myself much so just my guesses.

To best my my knowledge library path is all you would need for compiler
to find it.

Does the trial ship with BPL as well as DCP files? Are both available on
the library path (especially if they are in separate folders)?

Is the package name listed in runtime packages exactly as file name ?
(i.e. no typo issues anywhere).

Yes, the trial comes with 2 BPLs & 2 DCPs - all 4 in the same directory.

The entry in runtime packages is from a 'browse|select' function, so is correct.

I'm stumped.

I've been writing code for 2 days without being able to test it!
