Thread ODBC MSI installation error
Mon, May 8 2006 10:03 AMPermanent Link

Sergiu Oprea
Hello,

We tried to install the DBISAM odbc driver using MSI on several computers using Windows XP with service pack 2 and we get the 1601 MSI
installation error.

Could you tell me more about it or could you tell me the functions which are called when the driver is installed?

Thanks,

Sergiu,

I believe the error you referenced (1601) is indicating that the windows installer is not properly loaded & available as a service  (1601 = the
installer service cannot be accessed). Try installing (or re-installing) the microsoft installer.  Look for Instmsi.exe on the microsoft site.

Are you running our default installation program that we provide, or have
you re-packaged the ODBC driver into your own installation or setup program
?

Hi Nick,

Thanks for your answer, the strange thing is that it happens on more computers in different locations, some of them installed for the first time.

Could you tell me where I could add source code like:

DBISAM ODBC installation started
try
 ...
DBISAM ODBC installation finished with no errors
except
 DBISAM ODBC installation error
end

Thanks you,
Sergiu Oprea

Hi Tim,

We are not using your installation program as we need an installation kit for our customers. We used Install Shield to build it.

Regards,
Sergiu

Hi Tim,

Could you tell me if there is a possibility to install the odbc driver unattended (launch your installer with some command line options).

Thanks.

That's fine, in fact we usually recommend that you do it that way to avoid
stepping into issues with our license agreement and redistribution.

Did you pursue this with InstallShield to see if perhaps it is something
that they need to address ?

Unfortunately, no.  Our installation program is mainly intended for the
developer's installation.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for your answer, regarding Install Shield, is it enough to register the dll or there are any registry key which are also set by your installation
software?

Thanks,
Sergiu
