I (think that I) read somewhere in the past that you are considering also a single-file database.
Is that true and if so what is the current state of that "feature"?

It's about 70% done at this point, and will be part of an EDB 3.0 release.

Tim,

thank you for the clarification. The next question naturally arises about the road map (time wise) to this v3 release.

Is V3 going to be f/s and c/s or just c/s?

The single-file architecture will be C-S/single-user only, no multi-user
access.  However, there will be an option for automatically finding servers
on the network, so multi-user, file-sharing will move pretty easily over to
this architecture with the added benefits of more stability and better
performance.

I await others comments with interest and foreboding Smiley

Given the performance of the latest SMB protocol, I suspect that most people
would be glad to move off of the file-sharing model.  Especially given the
fail-safety aspects.

One of my thoughts was where ElevateDB is used for single user/single PC apps which is where I'm sure a number of the questions foor single file database has come from. Also F/S is easier to setup / maintain for the non-computer literate than C/S.

Single-user applications are not an issue - they can work just fine with an
embedded engine.

I disagree.  If the connection process is transparent, then there is no
setup other than installing both the client application and the server.
With peer-to-peer, one simply has to choose which machine will run the
server.  That's no different than determining which machine will host the
data.
