The e-mail campaign exitement, is it over?? |

Stephen | In February we got an e-mail survey about "DBISAM to ElevateDB" and we also participated it. In the beginning it looked
like folks at Elevatesoft themselves got exited about the responses they got: "I'd like to give another big thank you to everyone that took the time to respond to us these past few days regarding ElevateDB and DBISAM. It has really opened our eyes and given us a fresh perspective on a situation that we, especially myself, really did not entirely appreciate. " Now after that email, there has been total silence for over a month. I do not even find any threads there would be discussions about this survey. The last e-mail just had this pricing list about the paid support possibilities: "3) For ElevateDB customers, the paid support will begin with a purchase of ElevateDB 2.0, which will include one year of support automatically. After the year is up, the support fees will be $99 a year (per purchased product) for those that own EDB-STD products, and $159 a year (per purchased product) for those that own EDB-CS products. For customers that own both ElevateDB and DBISAM, the fees for DBISAM will be discounted to $29 and $59 per year per product, respectively. So, for example, if you own a DBISAM-STD product and an EDB-STD product, then the total yearly support fees will be $29 + $99 = $128." I wonder if everybody else is satisfied when they got that Support Pricing List, and that's it? At least I was slightly disappointed that the only action from the original excitement was this support-pricing list, so start sending USD50/year to Elevatesoft. I kind of waited that Elevate maybe opens a whole www-page after this survey. There would be collected the details about the promised upgrade support, description about upgrade paths or something. Now this all after the survey looks to be dead. My original need was to find some easy way how to upgrade to new Dbisam/Elevate versions. Yet I do not even now know about the pricing for the upgrade paths. The only page I have found when upgrading for instance from Standard versions to C/S versions is this ancient http://www.elevatesoft.com/upgrade.htm page that actually says nothing. Am I going toe get even 10 cents benefit when upgrading to more comprehensive versions, I have not found nor got an answer to this? Yes, I have a copy of that support-pricing list from Elevatesoft. But no, I am not going to start sending them any money. I don't know if they are even waiting that money or not, but they are also won't get anything from here. I just wanted to say that we both sides shared the excitement because of the survey and after that survey. But the thing(s) that was actually realized afterward is not what I was after. We have some slight understanding problem here after all. -Stephen |

I think you're underestimating the amount of work Tim has to do just to reach the starting line. If, as I hope, he's making changes to ElevateDB to make it more compatible with the DBISAM way of doing things and simultaneously keeping it moving forward to V2 that's going to take time and effort. You also have to remember that he's having to produce an end user app (EDBManager) as well as tinker with the supergeek stuff under the bonnet of the db engine, and that's HARD for him As I remember the upgrade from DBISAM to ElevateDB expired a while back, and wether it will be re-instated I don't know. If you look through these ng's you'll see I've dished out a lot of criticism to ElevateDB but I'm moving to it and I think its going to end up giving me a lot more than 10 cents value from it. BUT there is a lot of effort required. I'm still near the bottom of the learning curve. Finally my concern is that Tim isn't charging enough for maintenance for DBISAM since it may end up taking a lot of his time up that could be better spent on advancing ElevateDB. Roy Lambert |

Tim Young [Elevate Software] Elevate Software, Inc. timyoung@elevatesoft.com | Stephen,
<< Now after that email, there has been total silence for over a month. I do not even find any threads there would be discussions about this survey. >> We're busy implementing the new support plans, per the email that we sent to everyone that stated that this was what we were going to do. The support plans should finally be ready by this evening, and you will receive an email detailing how everything will work, and what will be required for you to purchase a support plan. The reason that it took so long is that we had to completely change around our entire internal systems to support the new support plans, including adding new areas to the Customers area of the web site, and all sorts of new automated facilities in our systems. It takes a while to get that all in place and working correctly. << My original need was to find some easy way how to upgrade to new Dbisam/Elevate versions. >> If you log into the Customers area of our web site using the user ID and password that we send to you, you will see a link called "Upgrade Products" on the right. If you click on that link, you will be presented with every upgrade option available to you for DBISAM and/or ElevateDB. Since ElevateDB is a new product, the special offers for DBISAM->ElevateDB are on our regular ordering page here: http://www.elevatesoft.com/order?action=viewcatprod&product=edb Under each EDB product is a Special Offers link. If you click on that link, it will give you the special DBISAM migration offers that we reinstated at the time of our last email to you that stated that we would do so. << Am I going toe get even 10 cents benefit when upgrading to more comprehensive versions, I have not found nor got an answer to this? >> I can't possibly tell you whether you'll get any value from an ElevateDB upgrade without knowing what your needs are. If you'd like to be more specific about your needs, then I can tell you whether ElevateDB will help you or not. For general product information on ElevateDB, you can go here: http://www.elevatesoft.com/edb_prodinfo.htm The product information pages will be under-going some work later this week also so that they're easier to read and navigate. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |
