Thread EDB Encryption Overhead?
Mon, Mar 2 2009 6:39 AMPermanent Link

"Hedley Muscroft"
Just a quick question. With DBISAM4 I used to find that adding encryption to
tables tended to impact performance quite noticeably - especially on larger
tables.

Does anyone have any experience or comments as to the performance hit on
encrypted databases in EDB?

Thanks.

Hedley,

You're going to see similar results, although the compression is rewritten a
bit in EDB, so there may be a few bits that are faster.   But overall,
expect to take a performance hit when using the crypto.

Thanks Tim - I think I'll do a bit of profiling to see if I can quantify the
overheads for my app.
