Chris Holland SEC Solutions Ltd. Team Elevate | Hi Roy,
Yes, I thought about this as an option, but that would mean changing the registry setting when launching each application.Which seems to be the same as having a Config=xxxx in the connection string, and Tim is saying that I shouldn't do this. Without having a configuration file for each application I dont see how this can work. Another scenerio comes to mind as well. What happens if I write a program for a customer and it sets up the configuarion file. Then another company writes an app. using ElevateDB ODBC and tries to install onto the same customers computer. Are we supposed to share a configuration file? Chris Holland Roy Lambert wrote: > Chris > > > You said that the config path is currently picked up from the (yech spit) Registry. Chris Holland SEC Solutions Ltd. Team Elevate | I have just checked the manual on the ElevateSoft web site for the Win32
version and it shows that for each application you can change the configuration file by setting the path in the engine so I would have expected the same functionality for teh ODBC driver. However all of this could be a mute point as I was planning on using the ADO driver when it becomes available. Tim, will the ADO driver allow a configuration file per. application like the Win32 system? (In which case I can forget all about the ODBC driver) Chris Holland Chris Holland wrote: > Hi Roy, > > Yes, I thought about this as an option, but that would mean changing the > registry setting when launching each application.Which seems to be the > same as having a Config=xxxx in the connection string, and Tim is saying > that I shouldn't do this. > > Without having a configuration file for each application I dont see how > this can work. > > Another scenerio comes to mind as well. > > What happens if I write a program for a customer and it sets up the > configuarion file. My reading of Tim's response was that you couldn't do it once the engine was active. Before do what you like. Roy Lambert |

Chris Holland SEC Solutions Ltd. Team Elevate | Hi Roy,
If another app. is using the ODBC driver I might not know that the engine is in use. Intriguing. Not having used the ODBC driver I don't know but wouldn't each app have its own instance of the engine? Otherwise you would be limited to one config path per PC or network or something. In these circumstances I suggest "suck it and see". Roy Lambert |

Chris Holland SEC Solutions Ltd. Team Elevate | Hi Roy,
Yes, I expected that each connection of the ODBC driver would have its own engine, but that does not appear to be the case. It appears that each computer is given a configuration file and all applications have to share it! Chris Holland Roy Lambert wrote: > Chris > > > Intriguing.
