> That could be a really, really nice feature - and I am sure that I am not > the once customer wants to see that feature... You have my vote! It could be a really nice feature, even if it is not exact - an estimate would be ok. -- Fernando Dias |

<<You have my vote!>> Mine too. I think the best solution would be an option in CREATE INDEX. Something like: CREATE INDEX index_name ON table_name (column) WITH STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE Also a TEDBTable method like UpdateIndexStatistics would be very nice. Mauricio Campana Nonino Nonino Software |

I had a long discussion about this back before EDB was released: http://www.elevatesoft.com/scripts/newsgrp.dll?action=openmsg&group=16&msg=66&page=1#msg66 and everyone had a chance to voice their concerns, etc. EDB will never have index statistics, period. They're gone, so everyone is going to have to adjust to living without them. There's no way they're going back in - the overall performance decrease is not worth an accurate scroll bar. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Anyway, I don’t know why you are so reticent to adopt something that would please everyone. Mauricio Campana Nonino Nonino Software |

I know it is natural for you to look at things from only your perspective, but I have to look at things from the perspective of what is best for all of our customers, especially in terms of the long-term picture. It is simply better for all of the ElevateDB customers to have faster overall performance in all areas than it is to have an accurate scrollbar in a grid. It's a trade-off that I'm willing to make because it makes ElevateDB better without sacrificing too much. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Let's say that i'm building a custom grid ... Do you have any idea how to know which it's the position of the current record ? (eg i'm on the 3rd of 30) -- Charalabos Michael - [Creation Power] - http://www.creationpower.gr |

<<Because pleasing a few people means making many other people mad.>> I don't think so. Why would somebody feels mad with such an enhancement? I'm not asking you to change the way things are working right now, but an option where I could choose the best alternative in each case. Let me be clear: in general, if you give me only 2 options, speed or statistics, I would choose speed, of course. But I have many situations (tables or canned queries) where I would not have any doubts to turn on statistics. So, I am absolutely sure that such enhancement would make EDB a better product for all. You don't understand the index format, so I can understand why you would think this, but the index format and the way the index costs are estimated now do not allow for turning statistics on or off. They simply aren't there, nor will they ever be there. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |
