Unable to create remote store, even though I can access remote DB |

Sanjeev | I have laptop with local DB (Edb server running on laptop) and main server computer with its own DB.
EDB Manager can connect to main server and see all DBs and stores in 1 session. When EDB Manager connects to Local DB Session and tries to add remote store from server computer I receive error message "The stream signature received is invalid" error 1100. I have same version of EDB server 2.16b2 running on main server and local laptop. I need to create remote store on laptop to allow updates between laptop and server. I don't understand how I can see the whole DB in its own session, but not create a remote store! |

I'm a little puzzled about just what you're trying to do and how you're going about it. When you say update are you trying to publish data from the main DB so it can be incorporated into the local DB, write some miscellaneous data into a file or something else? Reading the manual 1100 is a connection error, I'm not sure what the stream read error means. Can you post the actual steps (SQL would be great) that you're following and the exact error message (if you click on the dialog and press ctrl-C you can then paste it with ctrl-V) Roy Lambert |

Sanjeev | Thank you Roy
All I am doing is in EDBMgr no SQL. I have 2 headings under Default Session: ServerDB (IP Address 192.168.1.100) LocalDB (IPAddress 127.0.0.1) I can see and open ServerDB and see all stores and their contents. However when I try to create Remote Store in LocalDB, accessing a store on ServerDB I get the error message. i.e. Right click on Stores (under LocalDB) select "New Store" and follow steps ... select "Remote", enter IP Address, User (="Administrator") Password etc. When I click on the box to access the list of stores on ServerDB I get the error message. The strange thing is I have always been able to create remote stores before, but now I get the error. I wondered whether it was because of ANSI v UNCODE, but I have ANSI on EdbSrvr on Server and all sessions are also ANSI. |

Sanjeev | OK: Now I am confused. Just writing the CREATE STORE using SQL it works. Only when I try to access it through EDBMgr I get the error.

Adam Brett Orixa Systems | I can report the same error in EDBMgr 2.16b2. When I try to connect to some remote stores using the EDBMgr wizard/GUI I get the same error message.

Fernando Dias Team Elevate | Sanjeev,
My guess is that you are mixing UNICODE and ANSI sessions/config files. -- Fernando Dias [Team Elevate] |

Fernando Dias Team Elevate | Adam,
I can't detect any error like that here. Are you sure you aren't mixing ANSI and UNICODE sessions/config files ? -- Fernando Dias [Team Elevate] |

EdbSrvr on Server is running an ANSI session. But the DB is quite old, from time before ANSI / Wide Char. I am not sure whether there is some upgrade I should have done on the DB when addition of character set functionality came? Still unsure why I can connect using SQL (and do all store actions i.e. copy file), while I cannot connect using EDBMgr. |

Fernando Dias Team Elevate | Sanjeev,
What you said is a bit confusing, let's see if we can make it clear. As of version 2.15 there is a single version of ElevateDB that is capable of handling both ANSI and Unicode. Before that there were 2 versions, Unicode and Ansi. The first question I have for you: Which version were you using before 2.15, was it UNICODE or ANSI ? As of version 2.15 you have to specify what character set you want to use when creating or using a session. Also, you can't have Unicode sessions reading ANSI configuration files or ANSI sessions reading Unicode configuration files. Second question: What Character set did you specify in EDB Manager when you created the session to connect to the other server, as it ANSI or UNICODE? Please check it out. Third Question: What Character Set did you have set when you created the configuration file in the laptop? -- Fernando Dias [Team Elevate] |

I hope either you or Adam have reported it to Tim as a bug. Roy Lambert |
