Tim Young [Elevate Software] Elevate Software, Inc. timyoung@elevatesoft.com | Steve,
<< I'm guessing it will probably be next year then? >> It really depends upon how fast I can turn around the comms modifications. The main issue lies there, as the current general server design is such that sessions can exist outside of threads already. So, provided that I can modify the edbsocket.pas unit to do asynch comms fairly quick, I can have the whole thing done quickly (September/October or earlier). The ideal situation that I'm going for here is: 1) The EDB Server running with # threads ~= # of processors 2) The comms layer designed to work as 1) so that messages can be put into the comms queue at any time by any thread and immediately be sent out to the designated clients in real time 3) The clients designed to be capable of receiving the asynch messages in real time and triggering an event in the client's remote session -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

<< Thanks Tim, sounds excellent. >> Well, it would be a lot easier if Linux/Mac and Windows did things in the same way. They do at the basic level, but there are all sorts of weird limitations in Winsock that they all overcome in different ways, and that's where things start going wonky.... I'm trying to keep things clean for a certain compiler upgrade in the future. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Steve Gill | Hi Tim,
I'm pretty sure you're going to cringe when you see this resurrected message thread, but here goes... Any news yet on when the messaging layer might see the light of day? <helmet and flak jacket on> -Steve |

<< Any news yet on when the messaging layer might see the light of day? >> Nothing yet, but it's up next along with the nested transactions. I just need to get out of the "endless release cycle" pattern that I'm stuck in. As soon as I get done with all 3 product releases, the first one needs another release. I literally have to delay releases for months in order to get improvements included. Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

<< Thanks Tim. I don't envy your heavy workload. >> Some days I can be a drama queen, and Friday was "one of those days" because Ben's high school graduation/party was this last weekend and the situation was out-of-control stressful trying to get everything ready. I'm actually seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. After the next EWB build with some fixes, I'm actually caught-up in terms of minor releases/builds. I can then concentrate on the major upgrades for EDB (finishing) and EWB (starting). Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Wow, they grow up so fast, don't they. I remember seeing a photo of you and Ben (I think). He was just a youngster. Doesn't seem that long ago. |
