EDBSRVR could show notification when running a JOB, and warn user prior to shut-down |

Adam Brett Orixa Systems | I know that JOBs are often run on the server where users don't want to see notifications (i.e. the pop-up windows saying that a process is going on) & where the machine is seldom shut down
However I have to run JOBs to UPDATE local databases on user's laptops to a cloud-store. For me it would be useful if I could have a switch on the server which said something like: "pop up notification window when running jobs" or "pop up notification window when running remote jobs" and also some sort of hook so that if an update job was running and a user tries to switch they are intelligently warned: "please wait to switch off database job: <name> is running" I realise not everyone would want these feature, but it would be useful for me as it will give users an idea of when an update was underway. |

Jobs can only execute on an EDB Server, so there isn't any option to execute a job using a client instance of the EDB engine. Is that what you're intending to do ? I have EDBSRVR running on every users machine, so it does all the replication independent of the Delphi EXE. I also have a "master server" on the cloud which co-ordinates updates. It is the JOBs running on the local users machines which I would like to be able to send users a notification "updating to cloud now" ideally through the windows notification system so it looks like an in-coming email or SKYPE notification. |

You'll be able to do that with EDB 3, which will have real-time notification functionality in the comms layer. From the job itself, you'll be able to just tell it to send a message to the Delphi application (if it's running) that can then do what it wishes with the information (update the system tray, etc.). -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

I thought from previous posts that EDB 3 was going to be a single server instance only. Or am I misinterpreting the fact that fileserver mode will be removed? Roy Lambert |

It was the "master server" on the cloud and "JOBs running on the local users machines" which made me think Adam is either running multiple servers or a mixed f/s c/s environment. Roy Lambert |
