Simple data model diagram in EDBMgr |

Adam Brett Orixa Systems | I have lots of clients each with more or less different Databases. They're all food businesses, some trading some growing some manufacturing ... so there is common ground.
I have about a dozen database models to manage develop and update. At present EDBMgr does a brilliant job in many respects. However I still have to use a modelling tool (Datanamic DeZign for Databases) as a visual tool, so my clients can see visual models of the database. Reconciling between DeZign & EDBMgr is an endless headache. In panic situations small changes are made on the clients DBs which are not added to DeZign, then in calmer periods massive updates are made in DeZign which have to be patched across to the client database. I have systems to do all this & keep track of it (DeZign generates a CREATE script, which I run & then use EDBMgr to compare to my actual DB) ... but it is cumbersome. I would love EDBMgr to include a visual tool: 1. Create a visualization of a database, with table objects represented on screen. 2. Drag and drop these items. 3. Lines on the diagram to indicate relationships. 4. Boxes on the lines detailing constraints. ... then I could drop DeZign & work wholly in EDBMgr. I would not need the visual tool to work "both ways" (i.e. updates to the diagram generate SQL to update the DB) it would be OK just to be able to generate the diagram from the DB. I would be happy to pay a bit extra for the "pro" version of EDBMgr that would result. |
