Look and feel of new EWB layout |

Mike | When comparing the old look and feel (http://www.elevatesoft.com:8080/datasetclient/datasetclient.html) with new (http://www.elevatesoft.com:8081/formsubmit/formsubmit.html) the last one feels like old fashion.
Is this for a reason? I think new customers prefer the old look and feel. Does EWB 2.0 also have similar themes as EWB 1.0? |

I can't speak for Tim, but the new way will allow us to "skin" our applications much more easily I think, and more flexibly too. Tim's default skin shows off the capabilities, but you can just go mad making your own. I aim to reproduce my skin style soon, now that the underlying code is settled. |

Mike | Hi Matthew,
That sounds good however I think for customers (especially new ones) it would be better to have examples which show the graphic possibilities better. Uli Becker | Mike,
I know what you mean. For me as well the default controls and fonts are too big. Actually it's quite easy to create a new skin. In EWB1 you had to create a lot of graphics to create a theme, that's different and much easier in EWB2. For each control there is an interface which you can change and thus replace the default interface or copy it to a different path. EWB2 allows you to compile the library using different search paths - so you can use as many skins as you like. (Have a look at the "Desktop Colour"-thread in this ng. Tim explains in detail how that works.) Attached a screenshot of a modified TButton interface. Uli Attachments: Clip2.png |

He's currently working away to get the release out so i doubt this will happen for april. However based on his posts he plans to release regular updates after (now quite easy with v2) and this could be one of those. Raul |

So I stole a few minutes, as I wanted to see how easy it is to create a new type of button. After stumbling a few times in my haste, it's easy. First off, I copied all the existing "interfaces" directory to my new theme directory, so I can't break the original. Then my first mistake was to manually copy the webbtns.wbs file and trim it down to create just a THotButton from the TButton. I should really have used the Library menu to create a New component, which would have made it easier! Anyway, components can't have a - character, but _ is fine. When you open the interface file and save it to a new name, that's good, but you also have to change the component name it is for up at the top. I changed the standard button to my new style and didn't have one for my new button until I fixed that. The font sizes appear to be different somehow. The old 9 point text appears to be about 12 point now, but this may be something to do with aliasing, as it looks less sharp. I'll probably learn about that soon. At the deault 20 pt it looks lovely, but less so at lower sizes. But this is a heck of a lot easier than the old way, where I had to cut bitmaps into slices. Plus I can make them any size I want vertically. Looking good! |

Yes I agree. It would be nice if the default sizes were a bit smaller. = Steve |

MarkB | What feels old-fashioned ? The font, the size of the fonts, the gradients, etc. ? I've felt the same way. Here is a demo of another Delphi based tool which has a nice look and feel as well as theming support. http://prime.fmsoft.net/demo/ucdemo.dll |

Mike | Hi Tim,
I think the font size and combobox component are too large and color settings of panels can be improved. The example page on http://www.elevatesoft.com:8080/datasetclient/datasetclient.html has a much smoother look and feel which is nice to your eyes. Hope this helps a bit. Anyway keep up the good work! |
