I have a large collection of icons files stored in D:\EWB3\Icons. If a select an icon for a project then it is used as a “favicon”.

If a choose an icon, say D:\DATA\EWB3\icons\statistics_32.ico and click the relative button, this becomes ..\..\icons\statistics_32.ico. I do not understand how to make use of the relative option.

Would it be useful that the relative button could be toggled between depressed and normal state?

You just did make use of it - it simply converts an absolute path into a relative path.  That's all it does.
