I have often found that a mobile version of a web application can't necessarily contain all of the visual elements that a desktop-sized version can, at least not without seeming overly cluttered.

I'm interested to know if other EWB users are creating separate applications for each device, ie. one for desktop sized browser windows and one for mobile phone sized browser windows.  Or are you managing to cram everything in with responsive design (using layout management)?

Hi Steve,

I crammed mine into one.

It actually uses different forms that it selects based upon the
available screen size.

Makes it slightly larger but it is still only just over 1MB in size.

I always create separate apps. Since you can share a lot of code between
the apps, it's more or less just the UI which has to t be created from
scratch.

I aim to focus on a particular device, and let others work as best they can. So targetting mobile would still work on dekstop, and vice versa. Depends on the purpose of the application of course. WebBuilder 2's responsive layout is brilliant though, so you can make it look nice in whatever form. Occasionally I will replace one panel with another on a different device, or rather, a smaller device. I have stuff that involves dragging in one application, and that is replaced on a dinky phone with edit boxes.

I have found that EWB's responsive capabilities make it simple for most of my apps to function equally well on desktop or mobile devices. I generally make two small changes at runtime startup based on the environment:

- Change navigation from "top bar" to "dropdown menu"
- Change modal dialogs from "screen centre" to "cover screen"

I have attached some screenshots to show the differences. This particular app has to work across desktop, tablet and phone. So far these changes have been all that's required for a single app to handle all.

I think this type of decision can be very application-specific.  In certain cases, the mobile version *needs* to use a reduced set of features due to the fact that there isn't a keyboard/mouse, etc.  In such cases, a separate application (sharing basic functionality as shared units) may be warranted.

However, you can certainly use the layout functionality in EWB to have the same application work on both.  You just need to think in terms of grouping various bits of functionality as panels, and then using the layout and/or page panel controls to dictate how things flow or are situated on the various tabs.

I agree that it depends on the application.  In some cases having the same UI for both desktop and mobile makes sense, and in other cases it may be better for the mobile version to have a subset of UI elements.

I am sure with EWB you can make web-app that work on both desktop and smart phone as I did on my business web site www.texasbrisket.net.

Only thing I wish there is is the button property to change color.

That way I don't have to mass with interface
