Trinione | << I have no idea how the taxes work, Someone told me it was cheaper in EU to buy from the Amazon UK store than the Amazon EU store for tax reasons, maybe Brexis might change that. In the US I believe there is state sales tax if you live in certain states... I'm just glad Amazon handles the money and logistics for me so I can concentrate on what I do. >> Erick, Its the surprise factor, that's all. :'( I could not use Amazon Prime and went with their standard Free Shipping. Seeing a delivery date of 24 Sept. Normally its sent way sooner. We'll see. In the meantime I shall install Mormot and Lazarus. |

No, I think I was pretty clear that I would publish an improved edition in a few months and that people should wait if they were wanting the finished product. I only released the interim version for those who couldn't wait and I stressed that both in the forum and on my web page. Everything is moved and there is 60% new technical content. It's a lot more than a new chapter or two. I've been burned badly by sharing my PDFs in the past. It sickens me how much my work was 'shared'. I think the first edition, though it was a bit rougher (some Gawd-awful fonts), still stands as a great addition to EWB. If you are keen on just the mormot addition, you might wait for my mormot book which will address mormot in detail. If I could give you a discount on the upgrade I would, but it's all too complicated what with accounting and tax rules I must abide because technically, I didn't sell you the book, Amazon did, and it wasn't sold in Canada, so I would be gifting money to foreigners - and I'd have to vouch you weren't a terrorrist, you'd have to send me the cover to prove you bought it (because I don't have Amazon's customer lists), and I don't get the sale price of the book, just a portion, and that portion varies by which country you bought it, ... it's all too complicated for a few dollar discount - which was my cut from the book. Erick Just let you know that I have purchased numerous books from Amazon and your book was the only one that charge any sort of tax. Not sure if it is the publishing firm you used but it was pretty strange to lay out the additional taxes. Richard Baroniunas Software Developer Richard@Baronsoftware.com |

The publishing firm is a subsidiary of Amazon, the printing and accounting transactions takes place in EU, US or UK and is subject to those country and state laws. I also bought a final copy and they wouldn't accept prime, I don't know why. So I couldn't get free two day shipping. But I'm sure you will enjoy the book. I refer to mine daily. Erick |

AFAIK in general this started after the lawsuit with publishes when publishers become actual sellers and Amazon is intermediary - if the publisher has physical presence in your state then amazon must charge tax on your purchases. Not sure how this works for self publishing like this book though - especially since publisher is really Amazon owned. Raul |

I believe technically I'm the publisher. So if you're right, it's a Canadian book. Go figure. Erick |

Technically it's listed as "Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform; 2 edition" so definitely complex case for tax. I did order the book and while i did get charged S/H (ship to Canada) and deposit on import fees ($3) i did not get charged any tax at this point (estimated tax is $0). Raul |

I don't think any of the code examples are overtly Canadian, I used 'Merican spelling so as to not confuse people, and there is no mention of billions (which is 1,000,000,000 to Americans and 1,000,000,000,000 to us Commonwealth members), cheques, colour, tuques or igloos. The only Metric is in a Fahrenheit to Celsius example. The Canadian thousands separator (a space, not a comma) is not used (commas are decimal separators to French speaking people.) Other than the front page saying it is published by me in Canada, I thought it was country neutral - until this tax thing arose. Erick |

I thought to myself "well I don't know what that is but it should be interesting". And then I reread it. Maybe it's because I love Mexican food. = Steve |
