I have just started learning v.3 from scratch and it's a pretty steep learning curve. I didn't use v.2 at all, so any tips on resources that will ease the pain will be greatly appreciated. Step by step simple practical examples will be a great help.

I didn't find any video tutorials for creating server apps, database handling or client apps using external REST API.
Are there resources like this?

There are few videos but online manual is your best resource for now

I've not looked at them yet, but there are also the sample applications, which I would imagine cover a good range, and be good to study.
