It appears that you can only change the formatting of a grid cell based on the contents of that cell using TGridColumn's OnCellUpdate event.

Is it possible to change the formatting of a grid cell (or a grid row) based on the contents of another grid cell?

I was afraid that you were going to say that.  There are some options in this area, but they aren't particularly ideal and involve using a shadow dataset to grab the data that you want.  So, for now, the answer is no, you can't do that.

YES - I was able to get it working using a shadow dataset.  It only works for a cell that contains data that can be used as a key to lookup the shadow dataset.

I have a grid containing stock details that is sorted on 2 columns (for example, Stock Group and Stock Item) and wished to bold the row when the Stock Group changed.  That is not possible, but I can bold the data cell where the Stock Group key changes which satisfies the customer so it was a very helpful idea.

Good, I'm glad you that you were able to get it to work, at least in a minimal fashion.  As you say, the main issue is that there isn't much of a relationship between a grid cell and a dataset row or column.
