Happy New Year to all (it's the 1st of January here) from a very hot and smoky downunder.

Hope you all have an amazing 2020.

Happy New Year from Canada.  We've sent 85 firefighters down to Australia to help fight those fires with our Aussie cousins.

Thank you Canada!!!  Every bit of help from brave firies is appreciated.

In Canberra we currently have the worst air quality in the world (611 AQI).  We're pretty much surrounded by bush fires.  Fortunately there have been only a couple of minor fires in Canberra itself so far, but the local Government has told everyone to prepare their Bushfire Survival Plans.  We're getting sick of breathing smoke 24 hours a day.  It's like a dense fog - haven't seen blue sky for weeks.

Wow, that's bad air.  I really hope things can be turned around.  Still, the devastation and death to animals and those brave firefighters who were lost is already done and has been horrible.  It really should be a wake up call to all of us.

Best wishes for a Safe and Happy New Year.

Yes the devastation is absolutely horrible.  Worst bushfires we've ever had, and they're still spreading.

We've been lucky where I live in that we've only had the bad air (and 40C + temperatures).  We are on a State of Alert but that's better than a State of Emergency like some places have.  We've been told to stay inside unless absolutely necessary, and not to go outside without masks.  All deliveries and transport in and out have been suspended.  Shops are starting to run out of food - the same with fuel.  But we're still luckier than many others who have lost everything so I'm not complaining.

Thanks.
