11047 Errors followed by Truncated tables |

"Terry Swiers" | Hi All,
I've got a customer who has been getting corrupted and truncated files for about two weeks now. The only known change on the server system is the installation of a printer over a week before the onset of the issues, which shouldn't effect the operation of the database server engine. The initial error that is displayed is 11047, unknown OS error. After that, there are usually 1 or 2 files that have been truncated to zero bytes and 9217 errors. Obviously the first question is if anyone knows what the most likely cause of the error is and/or a solution. The second question if there is no quick and dirty solution is what information is needed to track down the cause? They were originally using a peer-to-peer connection to the data, so we moved them over to C/S on Monday and removed any networking shares to the database. Since then, the have had two events ( once a day ) of the 11047 error followed by truncated tables, so we know that it's not an issue of network failure. I'm in the process of getting FileMon installed on the server to see what is actually happening at the file level. Any suggestions beyond that? -- --------------------------------------- Terry Swiers Millennium Software, LLC http://www.1000years.com http://www.atrex.com Atrex Inventory Control/POS - Big business features without spending big business bucks! There have been cases in the past where HP printer drivers caused random floating-point exceptions in Delphi applications due to the printer driver changing the floating-point mask on the processor and then not changing it back. << The initial error that is displayed is 11047, unknown OS error. Interesting. I'll have them uninstall the printer driver. > Is there any anti-virus software or any other system software on that > machine that could interfere with the I/O, and that might be auto-updated > ? From that I can see (via remote helpdesk to their system), the only AV software is AVG 7.5. I personally set it to exclude the database folders yesterday afternoon, before this mornings file corruption. We use both AVG 7.5 and 8 here without any problems as well as on many other customers sites ( without excluding the data folders), so I would tend to rule this out as the cause. I don't recognize anything else on the system that could potentially interfere with the I/O. BTW, I forgot to mention that the OS is 2003 server. -- --------------------------------------- Terry Swiers Millennium Software, LLC http://www.1000years.com http://www.atrex.com Atrex Inventory Control/POS - Big business features without spending big business bucks! << Interesting. I'll have them uninstall the printer driver. >> Well, I don't have any information that indicates that this has happened in a long while (the last time was in the late 90's, early 2000's), so it may not have anything to do with the printer driver. I was just simply pointing out that the possibility is certainly there for interference. << From that I can see (via remote helpdesk to their system), the only AV software is AVG 7.5. I personally set it to exclude the database folders yesterday afternoon, before this mornings file corruption. We use both AVG 7.5 and 8 here without any problems as well as on many other customers sites ( without excluding the data folders), so I would tend to rule this out as the cause. >> I'm not sure about AVG, but with some of the AV software excluding the database folder(s) isn't enough to stop it from messing with the files. The problem with us keeping track of this is that they are constantly changing and auto-updating the AV software, so it is virtually an impossible task to keep tabs on everyone and what they're up to. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |
