Can anyone tell me how I can share the c drive as a whole? I've set it to sharing but still get access denied. I can share individual folder, but on this my home network I just want to share the drive. Any guru's out there?

First, upgrade to xp pro.

I have vista home ultimate on my home server. Renaming a file and moving
it to another directory takes a full minute (to the second) and uses 50%
cpu (core 2 duo). File deletes take a full 30 seconds. I had to sync two
100g drives which involved thousands of file deletes. It took 3 days to
complete. Windows Media Player only plays audio from video files. It's a
horrible, horrible OS release. I'm spending this weekend wiping it from
the hard disk and changing to xp pro.

Yup, found that one early Smileyalso allow users without passwords to access, and also turned off indexing service, background defrag and a few others.

Doing a google for vista file sharing one site I found had a top 10 tips to improve vista performance - disabling indexing, background defrag and others. I'm hoping they'll make an impact. I'll find out tomorrow when I turn it on again.

There're patches to fix this issue.

My machine is fully updated. Are they Hotfixes where you have to call MS
to get them?

Actually you need around 200 - 300 hotfixes or more to say that it's
fully updated. Smiley

You can't.

Oh good. That's so "obvious" from the interface.

Thanks.
