Was Defined.net Hacked??? |

"Johnnie Norsworthy" | My site on Defined.net, where I host a DBISAM server, appears to have been
hacked. I am assuming everyone on the same physical server is having the same issue. http://remwin.com I sent emails to them, but have not had any response. I reloaded my site and the hacked page persists. My ASPX pages don't work at all. Anyone else using Defined.net having problems? Their main web page still seems fine. -Johnnie |

would work on servers here wouldn't there and their tech support is non-responsive, very literallly non-existent. No phone availability for any reason. BlueHill aka 4Domains bought out defined.net several years ago and, IMHO, has turned the site into a GoDaddy wanna-be. Their mail server (8.7.20.128) is now apparently full of spammers (and who knows what else) to the extent that I couldn't get email to any of our Comcast subscribers. The site is on their blocked list. My advice is to run from them as fast as you can. request. Yes, this is ridiculous. I saw your post to the newsgroups, which are another black hole of support these days. Not very happy right now. It was confirmed by billing though, that the server was hacked. Maybe with a dedicated server they are OK, but with the $30/month shared server we have our site is sometimes extremely slow or unavailable (404). We report the problem, they reboot the server and it's fixed until the next time. Or they say they can't find anything wrong. This past couple of months seem to be relatively OK, so moving to another company is currently low on the list of priorities. But I would not recommend them. Also we had an issue with a credit card: we changed the billing to be on a different credit card. However their site didn't recognise the change, and when the original card failed they cut off our service. Our site was 404 which we discovered right after 5pm their time or whatever and couldn't be reinstated until 6am or so the following day their time. Tech support hadn't the authority to even temporarily fix it. So customers couldn't reach our site, nor could search engines. I had to stay up all night so as to be able to contact them at 4 am my time to fix it. Lance Rasmussen Jazzie Software Team Elevate | Verio has a few different divisions, so it could be one of their inherited
low end ones. I use (and resell, though wasn't the intention of my post) their higher end virtual private servers. It is more expensive, but I have a lot more power and performance with it. I've not had any billing issues with them at all. I've been with Verio for over 10 years now. They've had little issues here and there, but overall has been out of sight, out of mind for good service. YES, they are being totally silent about it, as they are always totally silent about anything they do. After pressing a lot, and swallowing insults like I ought to switch to .NET and SQLServer, instead of using DBISAM, they let me know they were upgrading their stuff now to allow more security. I should have switched away from them years ago, but have been a tad paralyzed by laziness and the prospects of setting it up on a new server, although for the same price I get a dedicated server at the competition, I remained there... -- |

for a couple years. In the process of switching now, as Defined's support has hit rock bottom. I went with www.bottomlinecom.net I now have a VPS server, that I can RDP to and have FULL control. With the VPS, you can install any server or app you want, Bottomline has been great to work with. So I now have my DBISAM 4 server and several Intraweb applications running as Windows Services. My DB server was lucky to stay up on Defined for 3 or 4 days. On the new server it's been up since installation 4 weeks, 3 days.......and counting. I'm even installing my own choice of mail server, that's not a 5 version old spam magnet. Ivan |

was absolutely stunning, as was the inability to get anyone on the line for any reason, even cancelling. Does bottomlinecom support ISAPIs? I didn't see it on their feature list.
