I'll check it out

I don't know if its just my install, or a general Vista feature, but with indexing turned off Windows Find 1) often seems not to find files that are there 2) sometimes never completes a search and 3) about 25% of the time crashes.

I have no desire to turn indexing on, don't need the overhead, and on the few occasions I do want to search am happy to wait. I wonder why M$ keep inflicting these things on us?

If I ever do fill it up I wonder how long it takes to move 1Tb of data Smiley

Thanks for the research and info.

Roy,

Diskkeeper is a big one.  It's down the street from my relatives when I
visit just a couple blocks from the Burbank, CA airport.

I've switched, however, to Raxco's PerfectDisk.  They released a new one,
with an edition that works with VM's.  I think it performs much better, plus
I can have it defrag internally, externally and then shrink the VM disk.

WinGrep works pretty well for files.

I HATE REGISTRY CLEANERS....    Never met one I liked.

Agree with you David regarding PerfectDisk.   I use their new VM edition and
it works great.
