"Johnnie Norsworthy" | (from a previous message)
I really, really, really need a new web host: - ASP.NET (low low low bandwidth) - DBISAM 4 server (minor use) - Very resonsive to support emails - Quick to set up A.S.A.P - Preferably in U.S. - CMS would be nice too - even DotNetNuke, as long as I can still have C# ASP.NET pages -Johnnie |

"Jerry Clancy" | I see that you are a verizon email client. Can you get FIOS locally yet?
Hosting your own server would be pretty straighforward with high-speen cable access. "Johnnie Norsworthy" | I have thought about it, and I have Windows Server 2003 and a machine that I
could dedicate. I already host a non-critical UDP logging application here that goes to that machine using a DDNS address. I need a static IP and Verizon is very proud of those. My internet rate would go from $30 a month to $200. So I think a cheap dedicated host with better reliability than my home connection would be preferred. -Johnnie "Jerry Clancy" <jclancy@billtrak.com> wrote in message news:A100AB25-F2D7-41C0-A9B1-7601AB243462@news.elevatesoft.com... >I see that you are a verizon email client. Have you tried http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/ so the DNS will still find your ip address when it changes (free). This will allow you to use your $30/month account with a dynamic ip address. Dave |

Jason Lee | Hi Johnnie & Others,
My Defined site was hacked also, I put the pages back and it hasn't been a problem since, but it was very disturbing. Since then I've decided to buy Abyss web server (free or $79 depending upon your needs) and host my own on an WinXP box. It's been really fun getting it going--I have a static IP address and since I am a Hostgator reseller I can just point the DNS to my static IP address and voila! Where I'm at, Verizon charges about $10 extra per month for static IP addresses. ~Jason Lee P.S. Abyss web server supports ASP.NET 2.0, though I use CGI extensively, which it also supports. "Johnnie Norsworthy" | Thanks to all that responded!
I did some research and decided to take the plunge and get a dedicated hosted server. I went with cari.net, a California company. Defined.net still has not restarted my DBISAM server after 3 days of being down. -Johnnie |
