2 weeks ago, I picked up a new gaming machine at Best Buy.

Acer Aspire computer with an Intel Core 2 quad-core 2.6GHz processor, 2 GB
of RAM, 500 GB SATA drive, gigabit Ethernet, media reader, firewire, the
rest of the standard stuff, and Vista Home Premium.

The price?

Normally $750.

On closeout for $549.

Open box (reseal with Best Buy tape) so I got them to lower the price to
$499.

I signed up to switch from dsl to Comcast cable so the price dropped to
$399.

I had a $75 Best Buy gift card from Christmas.

Final price was $325 + tax.

The final kicker?  Even though the box was resealed with best buy tape, the
computer had never been booted or even taken out of the box.  Somehow the
original box tape was broken so they had to retape it.

This thing is smokin' fast.

Probably you could've gotten it for free if you asked them to remove
that piece of crap Smile

Vista isn't that bad.

Sure, the machine has a quad core processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a 7950 PCIe
video card, so there is a lot of fast hardware here, but Vista runs
smoothly.

I have tweaked Vista to turn off the UAC warnings.
