"J. B. Ferguson" | Tim,
FYI, I've been using MacAffee for 3-4 years and I've never had any issues with empty .BLB files or any other DBISAM data files ever. -- Regards, Jan Ferguson Tim Young [Elevate Software] wrote: << I'm geting McAfee now to try it out. |

"J. B. Ferguson" | Tim,
I'm not sure if it's the Internet Suite or not. I got it years ago, as a 30-day trial with a PC I bought, and I liked it and have renewed since. It *IS* comprised of all their products so it is a suite of some type but all my products are listed separately in my account. They are: Security Center v8.0 Virus Scan v12.0 Firewall v9.0 Anti-Spam v9.0 Privacy v10.0 Obviously the Virus Scan is more important to this thread but as I stated, I haven't ever had a problem. -- Regards, Jan Ferguson Tim Young [Elevate Software] wrote: <<Jan, << <<<< FYI, I've been using MacAffee for 3-4 years and I've never had any <<<<issues with empty .BLB files or any other DBISAM data files ever. >> << <<Cool. "J. B. Ferguson" | Jon,
No...not to my knowledge. I test my apps many different ways before I prepare them to be used or sold (I have written several fairly extensive "pro bono" apps for government entities.). I test them with and without data in the BLB file. I ship them with empty data files (including empty BLB files). While I might ship some of my apps with some lookup data, the lookup data never includes BLOB data. Therefore no BLB files connected to the lookup tables. Meanwhile the "main" data files are always empty (I empty them using DBISAM's database system utility) and when I test the installation here I have never had the problem with MacAfee AV. Additionally I have had no complaints from any end users and I know for certain that several of them also run MacAfee AV (although I can't tell you which product or suite of products they run.) I just checked some of my personal applications (apps I have written for my own personal use) and two of them currently have BLB files which are completely empty and have been for months. MacAfee has not done anything to them and I run an AV scan every night during my sleeping hours. Additionally, the Comcast cable companies here in South Florida (USA) offer free MacAfee AV and Anti-Spam software if you have an Internet account with them. I have at least 20 end-users in my immediate area who use the free MacAfee AV software and also run at least one of my apps. The installation did install blank BLB files and none of them ever had issues with them being deleted or otherwise altered. I don't which version of MacAfee (I think it's the latest previous version) that Comcast offers since I have a paid subscription. That's the best I can offer regarding my experiences with MacAfee. They're pretty big down here in South Florida. -- Regards, Jan Ferguson Jon Lloyd Duerdoth wrote: <<Any chance your app never has an empty blb? << <<Jon << <<J. B. Jon Lloyd Duerdoth | Thanks for the feedback... my app has very few blb's and they are always
populated by default so I thought that might have been the difference. Jon J. B. It looks like the anti-spyware portion of the Telus Internet Security package is also deleting the empty blob files. I had a customer run the anti-spyware portion of Telus for the first time last night before shutting down and going home, and this morning all of his empty blob files were missing. -- --------------------------------------- Terry Swiers Millennium Software, LLC http://www.1000years.com http://www.atrex.com Atrex Inventory Control/POS - Big business features without spending big business bucks!
