Sorting on English and Spanish names |

Mark Shapiro | What I would like to do is sort English and Spanish last names alphabetically in a grid
according to the English sort order. Is there any way to do that in SQL? Are there any libraries available that replace accented Spanish letters with their English equivalents? What's the best way to tackle this? Mark Shapiro |

What's the best way to tackle this? >> If you use the English (United States) language for the table, it will automatically treat all accented characters as the base character instead. For example, the ó and o characters will collate to the same character, and will raise a primary key exception if the accent is the only difference in the key. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Mark Shapiro | Tim,
Thank you for the quick response. Just to be sure I understand, that means changing the table Locale from ANSI Standard to English (United States)? Are there any side effects of such a change that I should be aware of? Mark Shapiro |

Other than that, there's no other side effects. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |
