I think anyone that will upgrade to Windows Vista will(should) have upgraded to Developer
studio 2006 a long time ago.

Kind regards,

What happens if you right click the hlp file (not the shortcut); do you
get a menu that includes something like XP COMPATIBILITY MODE?

And if so, what happens when you set your HLP file and maybe the exe
that uses it to compatibility mode?

caught between a rock and a hard place.  For now you'll have to use the PDFs
under Vista until we figure out something.

Geir,

And our online help is available as MS Help 2 under Delphi 2005 and 2006, so
there is no issue in that case.

Well, I don't find it to be too bad except in the cases where it breaks and
stops working completely. Smiley

Yup.  My BDS help is just completely fried at this point.  I've just learned
to live with it for now.

I have read that the older version was removed for security reasons.  Well, my computer
hasn't exploded lately using winhelp.

As you are aware, the vendor of software can not supply the older exe, but the user can.
If a developer is using a version of Delphi that is that old, the developer most probably
will both understand the need for a hack and be willing to do so. In fact, I would argue
that this option is best as it involves almost zero time investment (every minute spent
fixing MS's unfinished work is wasted) and fixes all kinds of currently broken software
help. The only problem is if someone doesn't have xp, well then maybe another version of
winhelp would work. For a brief how to, see the quote below from Delphi non technical.

Here is a quote on how to do it from delphi non technical forum:

As you already know, Vista will not run a .HLP file but you can circumvent this as follows:
In the Windows sub directory you will find the file WinHlp32.exe which is just a stub that
pops up the help file saying HLP doesn't work. However, you can substitute the
WinHlp32.exe file from XP but Vista will not let you rename or replace the stub file, What
you first must do is via the properties page security tab take ownership of the file and
give yourself full permission and then you can rename it to something like
WinHlp32-Stub.exe and then you can add the WinHlp32.exe from XP and your help files will
run as expected. I know this works for x32 but haven't tried it for x64.

Just remember that anything to do with WinHlp32.exe must be done by the customer. You are not allowed to redistribute this exe.
