You could try to exclude the databasedir and the session.privatedir from scanning. Bernd Kuhlmann |

I do know that we are getting this error out in the field on machines that DO NOT have antivirus installed and on the ones that do the folders have been excluded. Bern -- |

We have verified that at one of the sites that is getting the error we have verified that AV is excluding the folders where the DBISAM tables are. We just started having this problem within the last 3 months and it has been getting worse. Also when the error happens the temp file it is trying to access is no where it be found. Does DBISAM create temp files in memory? Bern -- |

Oliver Bock | I am also seeing this problem occasionally on a machine running
Kaspersky virus software. Could DBISAM wait/retry on these files if it cannot get a lock immediately? Oliver |

This is the way that AV software work and this is not a DBISAM problem. Most AV software are the killer of database applications. Eduardo |

You literally have to remove the AV software in order to get it to stop. << Also when the error happens the temp file it is trying to access is no where it be found. DBISAM may be able to delete the file successfully after the error message because that is the default cleanup behavior. Also, some AV software does what is called a quarantine, where it literally moves the file somewhere else until it can be scanned, etc. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

<< I am also seeing this problem occasionally on a machine running Kaspersky virus software. Could DBISAM wait/retry on these files if it cannot get a lock immediately? >> It's not a lock issue, it's that DBISAM wants to open the file exclusively and the AV software has opened it already. Sure, it is possible to re-engineer DBISAM to retry file opens X number of times, but with everything else in the pipe right now, it is not in the cards. The bottom line is that you simply don't want AV software scanning *any* database files at all anyways. It does no good and simply hurts performance, apart from simply breaking DBISAM. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

Could DBISAM keep the files open until it's done with them? That would stop the anti-virus software opening them. If you used FILE_FLAG_DELETE_ON_CLOSE you'd stop the race condition where the anti-virus software opens the file in between you closing it and deleting it. (I cannot get away with telling my users not to run anti-virus software, and since they may download my software from the Internet I cannot sit in front of them and reconfigure their anti-virus software. The only thing I could do would be to buy every anti-virus software on the market and put up a web site explaining how to disable it for my software.) Oliver |
