Jim Margarit | I'm trying to setup a simple newsgroup server for a half dozen folks to
use. Is it possible/easy to limit the users that can login to Tim's internet server? <tale of woe on> this seemingly simple task has been a nightmare. -got phpbb through my webhost all set up but it now crashes when you try to register a new user. Waiting on tech support. -tried snapserver per rita. On the first run it goes into a database backup mode that never exits. Nonfunctional on restart. Waiting on tech support. -tried hampster. The chm help file is broken so no way to even start trying to set it up. any other suggestions for a cheap/free newsgroup server? <tale of woe off> Jim Margarit |

Jon Lloyd Duerdoth | Jim,
I dabbled with http://www.twinhelix.com/cgi/forums/ For low traffic and low number of users it might be OK. James Margarit | Jon, thanks for the link. Unfortunately, it requires setting up and
configuring Apache and PHP first so it could be way more complex than this endeavor is worth... Jon Lloyd Duerdoth | Jim,
My ISP was already set up that way so for me it was pretty easy. Jon James Margarit wrote: > Jon, thanks for the link. Might be something interesting to try when I find myself with too much time on my hands. Perhaps 2012 or so. Jim |

"Norman W. Clark [Clark-Tech Inc.]" | Jim:
You might consider Easy File Sharing Web Server http://www.sharing-file.com/ It's easy to setup and manage. It's not all that secure but if you just want to share some information/files/photos and a forum dialog for a few folks it works just fine. For $50, it will save you hours of time. -- ....
