Lori,

<< Tim, also wondering if I have the most recent version?  You said 4.3 of
the driver, but mine is 4.26.  This came from my client who just ordered it
recently.  How would they go about getting the more recent? >>

DBISAM 4.26 is an older version, yes.  In order to download the 4.30 version
of the DBISAM ODBC Driver, your client will need to make sure that they have
an active support plan.  Then they will be able to download 4.30 and any
other minor releases that occur during the next year, along with a year of
phone/email support.

Lori,

<< Thank you Tim, I'm confirming that version with my client.  Can you tell
me, after linking the tables to Access 2007, are you able to then close
Access and reopen it and have the tables automatically refreshed?  This is
my problem.  I can link the tables just fine the first time, but they fail
upon re-opening the database. >>

When you say "fail", do you mean that you're seeing an error message, or
that they don't refresh ?

What I'm doing is this:

1) Creating a new database
2) Creating a new linked table
3) Shutting down Access
4) Restarting Access
5) Opening the same database
6) Opening the linked table

Good to know, perhaps that is the problem.  I will have my client download the most recent version of the driver and let you know the results.   Thank you,

When I follow the same steps that you show below I receive an ODBC Call failure and the table data will not display in Access.  I will have the customer download the most recent version of DBISAM driver and then see what happens.  Thanks,

Followup,  my client had to get a new server.  I now am trying again to link the tables to Access 2007, using DBISAM 4.3, Build 2 ODBC Driver.

I now can pull the tables into Access via Get External Data, but when I try to open them or query on them I receive the following error:  ODBC Call Failed.  [Elevate Software][DBISAM]DBISAM Engine Error #11010 Table or backup file 'name of table' does not exist (#11010)

Please assist.  I have linked various tables to Access via SQL and ODBC numerous times, must be missing something here, but I cannot figure out what??

Pleae advise, thanks,

If you do not have this problem, can you please tell me your process for creating the ODBC link?  I am versed in setting these up, but seem to be having trouble configuring this one.

Thank you,

Lori,

<< Wondering if anything more has been discussed regarding this older thread
on linking tables to Access 2007?  I am having the exact same trouble.  At
times, even a refresh will not work, I have to actually recreate the data
source before I can go into Access and see the data.  While I can get around
this for now, it will not be a workable solution for my client. >>

I just tried linking some tables using Access 2007 and the DBISAM 4.30 ODBC
Driver, and it works fine.  The version of Access 2007 that I'm using is:

Microsoft Office Access 2007 (12.0.6535.5005) SP2 MSO (12.0.6545.5004)

Are you sure that the tables you're trying to access are DBISAM 4.x tables ?
You can check this via the DBISAM 4.x DBSYS utility under Utilities/Table
Version.  You can download/install DBSYS here:

Tim,

I finally have the tables linking without requiring a refresh, however there are some tables I still cannot link to.  All tables I am attempting to connect to are in the same folder C:\Alice\Tables.  Some I can connect to, others I cannot --- Access says "The Microsoft Office Access Database engine could not find the object 'Clients'. Make sure the object exists and that you spell its name and the path name correctly."

Can you explain why some tables I can link to, such as ChildList, but others I cannot?  Wouldn't they all be DBISAM 4.x tables?

Please advise, the customer is getting anxious for results, and I have hit many dead ends.

Thank you, Lori Jones

I couldn't tell you without seeing the actual tables.  If you want to email
them to me, I can tell you what the problem is.  I'll need the .dat, .idx,
and .blb (if present).
