# 2089SQL ALTER TABLE IF NOT EXISTS for a Column Still Attempts to Open Table Exclusively The following query throws an exception if the table is opened. This exception makes sense only if the table is to be altered. If, however, the column does exist, there is no reason for the exception.
alter table account add column IF NOT EXISTS StatementDate date
