# 3630 Tables with Corrupted Compressed Blobs Can Cause Invalid Pointer Operation During BLOB Open/Read

I have a table that cannot be restructured, I am trying to change a string field from 60 characters to 250 characters. My sql script throws 'invalid pointer operation' and so does dbsys. I need to get the table to you as it does not occur on every table. The table in question has been repaired using dbsys but it makes no difference, the invalid pointer operation persists.

Comments Comments and Workarounds
The "invalid pointer operation" was caused by the engine not handling an error condition during a BLOB open properly. The underlying cause of the error was a decompression error for the compressed BLOB field that was being opened.
