"Darren Davis"
In the canteen in work every day dessert is [something] with a creamy
custard, be it apple pie or apple and apricot crumble, or an array of other
delights (never have desserts myself so don't pay too much notice). A few
times I've seen rice pudding with a creamy custard - I'm sorry I just don't
get that!!???

Us Irish love our Rhubarb and Custard too (well we did before everyone got a
bit fancy with themselves) but I grew up with a great fondness for both
Rhubard and Custard and Roobarb and Custard:

I thought I heard people put custard on bangers, bacon, chips and stuff
like that. (Sorry for the people who have just eaten).<vbg>

Another Bourdain junkie???  woo hoo.

I completely agree, although my experimentation level of food is not quite
as
brave as his...  and I've tried durian ( The fruit formerly known as baby
diapers)

I like Ramsey.

His BBC show  with Kitchen Nightmares is great. I just saw
his new show of the same for the US...  Not the same feel
and too much melodrama.

I do say that I think Ramsey has a wussy pallet in terms
of heat / spice.

I thought they only poured Trickle or gravy over all food.

I also heard that the Brit's are discovering the simple things,
such as salt, peper and a collage of different things... called herbs for
their food now.

What did you think of the show Wed nite?   The BBC version much better
and constructive, I think.

Hell's Kitchen, though, pales by comparison to Top Chef.
Hell's Kitchen seems to have 5 minutes of true cooking, then the rest is
just how to cook Ramsey's way.  Top Chef...  they actually cook and
show their chops.

Yeah, the US version is junk and has Fox written all over it.  They don't
even revisit the restaurant later to see if things are still turned around.

Yeah, he's always complaining about a dish being too hot or having too much
pepper.  Give me some Thai nutty chicken and crank up the heat ! Smiley

I agree.  The US version is another rendition of Hell's Kitchen.

Yes, they actually have talent - "they" being the producers, judges, and
contestants. Smiley

I'm not wild about Padma. Prefer Billy Joel's wife.  But someone said
beside's acting and modeling... she can actually cook...  (and drink... lol)

lol..   Remind me to send you some "Da Bomb, nuclear fission"...    That
will
wake up your taste buds.

I'm not a hot head, but enjoy heat when it makes the dish and I can still
taste everything.

Come to think of it...  I don't think I've ever seen Ramsey ever pick up a
pepper shaker....   hmmmmm..

On a different note....  Have you read Bordain's newest book?  It's a bunch
of excerpts from other stories
and such.  Really interesting and funny.   He mentioned in the end of the
book with "notes" on those stories
from today's perspective, looking back and he mentioned, lol, not picking on
the "ewok" so much anymore,
since he's paid his dues....    But love his ranting on the "raw" movement
spearheaded by Woody Harrelson.  Funny stuff.
