Yes, you can turn UAC off.  I think about everyone will do this after
getting over the novelty of feeling more secure.  It is just too
obtrusive.  i don't yet know if there are tweaks so that we can decide
when it is to warn us or not, but I sure hope so....or I am turning it
off.

You know.  I keep hearing that but I run my Dbisam app which is
installed in Program Files under vista an the data directory is in the
same folder and I get no warnings when running that app, which writes
not only data files but config files too.

Interesting. I've only done basic testing so far on Vista, but I know that
many University users of our software used to have trouble with anything
in Program Files as they were all using very locked down rights etc.
Making the changes to file locations wasn't hard though, and it made Vista
easy.

Good point.  I was just doing some playing around and installing some
applications, and didn't notice that it was specific to non-My Documents
folders.  I'll have to brush up on it a bit more.

I still, however, think it's a bad idea to ask the user.  Asking the user is
what they did/have done with attachments in OE and that never stopped anyone
from infecting their machine with every known piece of spyware written.

I've just spent a couple of hours this very morning in a conference room in
London with David I and a Borland UK bloke, showing us D2007 and Delphi for
PHP. David I held my attention, but the other geezer didn't. Which is a
shame, because he said quite a lot, but I can't remember anything at all
about it!
