I think about everyone will do this after getting over the novelty of feeling more secure. It is just too obtrusive. i don't yet know if there are tweaks so that we can decide when it is to warn us or not, but I sure hope so....or I am turning it off. -- David Farrell-Garcia Whidbey Island Software, LLC |

I keep hearing that but I run my Dbisam app which is installed in Program Files under vista an the data directory is in the same folder and I get no warnings when running that app, which writes not only data files but config files too. -- David Farrell-Garcia Whidbey Island Software, LLC |

I've not yet read the full content - will have to wait - but I never said
"extra" popups. Just making the existing ones better. 8-) /Matthew Jones/

Is it an app, or a service?

Interesting. I've only done basic testing so far on Vista, but I know that
many University users of our software used to have trouble with anything in Program Files as they were all using very locked down rights etc. Making the changes to file locations wasn't hard though, and it made Vista easy. /Matthew Jones/

<< I suspect though, that most users actually won't have so many warnings. They'll get given a PC, install a few apps, and from then on will write to My Documents etc. I got harangued about this elsewhere, but I think that pp developers have been told long ago not to write to Program Files etc and if you follow the "rules" then it won't happen often. The people who will face it a lot are those who are doing more technical things like running servers which store data in the app directory (or sub-directory). >> Good point. I was just doing some playing around and installing some applications, and didn't notice that it was specific to non-My Documents folders. I'll have to brush up on it a bit more. I still, however, think it's a bad idea to ask the user. Asking the user is what they did/have done with attachments in OE and that never stopped anyone from infecting their machine with every known piece of spyware written. -- Tim Young Elevate Software www.elevatesoft.com |

"Charles Bainbridge" | I've just spent a couple of hours this very morning in a conference room in
London with David I and a Borland UK bloke, showing us D2007 and Delphi for PHP. David I held my attention, but the other geezer didn't. Which is a shame, because he said quite a lot, but I can't remember anything at all about it!
