Thread Web Server Performance

I tend to use the online reference materials from www.elevatesoft.com quite
a bit lately.  I've noticed that the www.elevatesoft.com web site can be
slow to load (sometimes on the order of several minutes for a web page to
load).  As a side note, when I download a version update of ElevateDB, I get
the slow page loads, but the download of the product itself is quite fast.
This has been occurring for several months now and it seems to occur more at
night (Pacific Standard Time Zone here) but sometimes occurs during the day
as well.

I e-mailed Tim privately and he indicated that he is unable to directly test
this since he has local access to his web server and that it is always fast
for him.  He suggested asking here in the newsgroups to see if anyone else
is experiencing the slow page loads.  So ... is anyone else also
experiencing slow page loads when accessing www.elevatesoft.com?

Thanks.

Yes, I have seen this same thing happen.  It is quite frustrating at
times.  I've even opened up browsers to other web sites to see if my
internet connection died, but no, it's just ES.  Like you say, some
pages seem to take several minutes, then a different page, or an actual
file download is very quick.  Other times, all the pages are quick.

I'm in Oregon and have a fast (FiOS) internet connection.

Greg,

I'm in the UK and I've never seen what you are describing. The only time
the Elevate site s slow for me is when everything else is slow too -
i.e. theres a bottleneck at my end. I doubt it is relevant, but for the
record I use FireFox, never IE.

Just a quick point - if things are running really slow around 11-11:30PM
EST, then that's when our backup is running and it may take a few minutes to
run, slowing things down a bit.  During the week, the backup only takes
about 2 minutes, but on Saturday night we backup all 1.5GB, so it takes
about 8-9 minutes.

Apart from that, the only common connection here seems to be that you're
both on the west coast.  We'll have to see what everyone else says and see
if we can find a common thread.

No problems here.  Very rarely page load of couple of seconds - usually
subsecond performance (using online manuals mostly).

Also only Firefox.

My traceroute shows average reponse time in 21ms range (max 46ms) and ping
is in 39-43ms range.

Coming almost from their backyard (Canadian side on Lake Ontario).

This morning it was impossibly slow here. Now (late afternoon UK) the core
pages load acceptably and then it hangs waiting for the logo etc

David,

I'm in Seattle and haven't noticed anything out of ordinary.   I'm on T-1 at
work and Comcast at home and things seem kosher.

Web pages and downloads usually seem fine from Scotland.

But I subscribe to 4 news servers and the Elevate one is
always the last to complete the downloading of new messages
(head+body) - but not by a lot.
